FLEKKEFJORD

Flekkefjord is a small town with 9000 inhabitants located of the south coast of Norway. In addition to the city center include Flekkefjord municipality also Sira , Gyland, Rasvåg and Kirkehavn.

The city center is still dominated by wooden buildings from the past. Most have gradually been painted white, although they were previously held in other colors. The buildings in the city streets are now in the process of being modernized. Shipyards is the most important industry.

There are nearly four nautical miles from the inner fjord to the open sea. Inner fjord basins are large enough to accommodate several ships and boats at anchor and free of strong wind or current. In the days of sailing ships there were many ships in the winter. When the Dutchmen began to fill out their port areas with stones, they came to Norway to fetch it. Flekkefjord had plenty of the goods. The district is named after this: Hollenderbyen. Many youngsters from the district took the hire of these boats.
